A public library and community hall organized around a covered civic plaza.
Enquire About This ProjectA public-private partnership brought a new library and multi-purpose hall together under one roof, with a covered outdoor plaza that stays usable through Oklahoma's heat and storms.
The Challenge
A fixed public budget required the covered plaza — the project's signature move — to be value-engineered without losing its scale.
The Concept
Two simple rectangular volumes bridged by a deep cantilevered roof that creates a shaded, storm-safe public plaza between them.
The Solution
Switching the plaza roof structure from steel truss to a tensioned fabric-and-steel hybrid cut cost by 30% while keeping the full span.
Additional Information
Structural engineering, MEP, and landscape consultants coordinated in-house through construction administration.
